OF GUI boot?

Hello all,

I am a long time user of Yaboot and there is a particular feature
that I would like to help develop, but I would first like to know
whether it is even feasible. I would like to see a splash screen on
boot, similar to the Apple BootX splash screen, rather than the
standard text prompt. Perhaps a keystroke would kill the splash and
allow control of boot parameters. Perhaps something even more
sophisticated could eventually be developed for a GUI selection of
boot devices, similar perhaps to the OS 9 loader of old.

Now, I realize this is pure window-dressing, and that yaboot targets
more than PPC Macs, but I think it would be a classy touch for those
running yaboot on their PPC Macs. As I said, I'm willing to put some
time into this myself, but I just don't know exactly where to begin.
I've browsed a bit of the BootX code, and think I've identified the
code responsible for displaying the gray logo. BootX is open source,
but I'm not certain of the license right off. Is it conceivable that
this or similar code be added to yaboot to provide some sort of
graphical splash screen?

Thanks,
Jon Sharp
