Rewrite of ofpath

Thanks Joseph!

Combining this with my patches to ybin, me may have the problem under  
control.

I'd appreciate it very much if someone could apply the same level of  
scrutiny to my ybin patches (copy attached) as to Josheph's ofpath  
patches and let me know what needs to be done to get them up to  
production quality.
