I'm looking at it buying us two things:
1) when someone on a random web forum suggests to run a command, someone
entering it will see "--danger-mode" and at least get a warning that
perhaps they're doing things that are, well, not completely
   supported.
A "think twice" rather than active protection.
2) When we get a bug report in, and there's --danger-mode we can quickly
hand it off to the right team, and if the bug report isn't from
manufacturing, we can just say "congratulations, you can keep both pieces".
