time runs too slow on maple

Can you verify this by stopping ntpd and run
while true ; do ntpdate time.apple.com ; date ; hwclock ; done
hwclock will likely continue normal
date will show the loss of time
and ntpdate will show the increasing difference.
I wonder why noone else has seen that.
