You also need to have CONFIG_FUNCTION_GRAPH_TRACER set and RHEL kernels 
are missing that. FWIW, SLES and Ubuntu enable that option.

Can you elaborate on what you're trying to achieve?  Are you wanting to 
profile all kernel functions, or specific functions?  And, how do you 
intend to use that?
