[Cbe-oss-dev] No otheros feature on new PS3 slim ?

As an aside to cliff's point, if Sony ceased support for the "other
os" feature because of monetary reasons(i.e. linux users don't buy
games, which makes it impossible to recoup the cost of the hardware)
as opposed to technical ones(i.e. it was not worth it to reimplement
"other os" support because of hardware changes), has sony ever
considered charging a premium(1-200 dollars) for a hobbyist enabled
bundle(something like a net yaroze?). I've heard about the new
university oriented dev kit, but i personally would love to have some
slim's for the office. We don't have much space, so the slim would
potentially make our lives much easier.

Its very disappointing for me to see Sony give up on the OSS community like this. Buying a Cell blade is out of the question for those of us in the starving artist category. Looks like I'll have to turn to Ebay to keep my cluster going :-/

It is really bad news for the CBE open source community, because the new ps3 customers will not have access to what some oss developers have made, in the idea to let the others profit from their work. I never imaginated SCE would take such an arbitrary decision.
