All petitboot does is a kexec of the ubuntu kernel and initrd
on the USB.  The ubuntu installer (inside the initrd) is totally
independent of petitboot.  The problem is the installer.  I
guess it is made to run from the CD.  Check the ubuntu forums for
info on how to do an install from USB storage.
