Originally 480/576i, 480/576p, 720p, 1080i, and 1080p were analog broadcast
resolutions including overscan.
Most (all?) displays I encountered so far have pixels falling off the borders
of the screen when using fullscreen modes.

If 1920x1200 works with your flat panel, I would use that instead of 1080p.
