[Cbe-oss-dev] Problems compiling spe-samples-1.0 on PS3

When I try to build spe-samples-1.0 
(http://www.kernel.org/pub/linux/kernel/people/geoff/cell/spe-samples-1.0.tar.gz) 
I get the error below when i do './configure':

checking for C compiler default output file name... a.out
checking whether the C compiler works... configure: error: cannot run C 
compiled
  programs.
If you meant to cross compile, use `--host'.

configure: error: /bin/sh './configure' failed for spe
configure: error: /bin/sh './configure' failed for hello-from-spe
[root at localhost spe-samples-1.0]#

Any help much appreciated.
