One thing I noticed is some pretty serious performance degradation when 
moving from 2.6.16 to the latest tree. Don't have any hard numbers to 
back it up at the moment but an informal hdparam -t dropped from ~27MB/s 
to ~15MB/s and disk I/O seems to make the X server freeze for short periods.

OTOH, the new configuration is probably pretty different from the stock 
2.6.16 so there might be something else besides the storage driver 
affecting it. Is the current storage driver fundamentally different from 
what's in 2.6.16 or is it supposed to be just a port?
