In the Tcl community we've been using Lulu to publish conference  
proceedings, and are happy with the service and price - http://www.lulu.com/content/3830746 
.  It might be another option to consider

And I agree having a paper publication has merit (albeit that might  
label me as an archeotechnophiliac :))
