Linux in old Mac

Hello everyone. I tried to install Debian on a PowerMacintosh 7300/200 but
not boot from boot CD or the floppy Debian Power PC distribution. I tried
hold the ALT key and C key and yet goes straight to the MAC OS when the
reader and the images are fine. The forum recommended Debian I ask in this
forum because I will start working on Mac and Linux and I am very ignorant
on the subject. Could you tell me the first steps I have to follow? Thank
you all.
