Do you have the modules for your root filesystem compiled into CRUX and
Gentoo, is /boot on your CRUX/Gentoo setup on /dev/hda2 or elsewhere?
The fact you are using /boot/vmlinux for everything in your images seems
incorrect.  Do you not have say /boot/vmlinux.crux
and /boot/vmlinux.gentoo? 

You don't give enough information on your partitioning or the exact
errors you are seeing for me to fully diagnose.
