Merged up to here to master as of
3f81b52c11271e4283c3add34e4275c7a66ad4b3 (including my split of the dt
updates mentioned previously).

This seems to work okay  for me on P8 hardware and P9 simics (well... as
well as this much P9 hardware support does in simics at this stage).
