This looks pretty good. I have one request to split up the redirect
view function and then I think I'll be happy :) Comments below.

As noted above, I'm not a fan of this. It feels unnecessarily hacky. Is
there are reason we can't keep the existing URL patterns and simply
point them to new 'patch_(raw|mbox|detail)_legacy' functions, which
will redirect to the new patterns. Sure, it's about 20 extra lines of
code but it avoids the trailing slash stuff that's going on in the
existing redirect function.
