This only covers half of the chip.
Instead of creating this partition, I recommend adding a 'label =
"bmc"' property to the spi-nor node. Since
CONFIG_MTD_PARTITIONED_MASTER is enabled, this will cause an MTD
device to be created for the full chip with the label "bmc".

Right. Pretty much all the devices are disabled by default in
