radeon 9600's dieing in G5's

For some reason, right after getting a 2.6 kernel built, I've managed to
kill 2 radeon 9600 video cards. They don't show up in apple system
profiler (I had to ssh into the box runnign OSX), and running linux,
radeonfb prints a message about "can't map MMIO region"

Has anyone else had problems with this? Is this something related to
running linux, or just a known problem with early G5's?
