I am also trying to get linuxppc64 2.5 going with a matrox card on a
regatta 630.
The matrox fb is switched off by default in the 2.5.66 kernel from IBM &
this code unfortunately doesnt compile
because the guy developing the matrox driver hasn't updated his code to the
new 2.5 framebuffer driver model.
The begining of the problem is him trying to include  video/fbcon-cfb32.h
which doesn't exist in 2.5
The problem is still there in 2.5.69

This is a patch posted on the mailing list which you maybe able to wrestle
into working.

It might be possible to get a kernel going without framebuffer support but
my 2.4.19 kernel uses it.
