How to connect ppp protocol to my socket modem?

hello all,
I have compiled kernel with CONFIG_PPP ,and i have
added  /dev/ppp into my file system.But i don't how to
write driver to connect to ppp protocol whith my
socket modem?
My borad is using MPC850 with Hardhat Linux 2.4.2.
