kernel for booting without tftp

I know very little at linux and mpc860, and I just have started porting linux on mpc860.

There are lots of kernel distributions for mpc860, but according to their documents they are for tftp downloading.

If I use BDM and download directly on the RAM, should I modify the kernel source? or config? or search for another one?

And is there any difference between booting from tftp and booting from BDM?
