Ah, I think I see what you mean. It should be like this, right?

  for_each_online_cpu_wrap(i, *cpu) {
  	if (!stride--) {
        	*cpu = i + 1;
  		break;
        }
  	cpumask_set_cpu(i, mask);
  }
