Hi Gavin,  it's not your fault, it's my fault. :)

Because pci_pcie_cap(dev) == dev->pcie_cap == pci_find_capability(dev, PCI_CAP_ID_EXP);

so I think it's ok to use dev->pcie_cap instead of stale "cap".
