micro-sd driver in linux-2.4

Hi

Are there any drivers in linux-2.4 to access a microsd card using the spi interface ( of mpc8360) ?
Can someone please explain how the sd drivers are layered in linux. Would the filesystem be interfaced with the sd layer and this over spi driver? I am just trying to understand if  i would be able to use the sd layer from some stock kernel and the spi module from linuxppc - how difficult would this be?
