how to read EDID information of Monitor

Sir,

         In my project i am facing problem of how to read EDID information of 
Monior(not using video bios call). So it would be greatful, if u suggest me 
some idea. soem were telling in readonfb.c  driver fiel for readeon its 
reading the EDID info. But could u tell me in bit detail about it. Also, 
please tell me how the video driver reads EDID info.
