Platforms directory structure in _2_4_devel tree

Paul,

I was bitching about the fact that the new platforms directory structure
not being in _2_4 was a PITA on irc the other day and several people
suggested I should bug you about it.  So I am.

It's been in there for ages and it's not caused me problems (other than
doing diffs between _2_4 and _2_4_devel) so can the _2_4 tree be updated
accordingly?
