Yeah, I might be persuadable on the subject of a git tree, but I'm not
sure how much better it will make life during this churn, nor how much
difference it will make once things settle down.

mq (mercurial quilt) supports the concepts of "guards" as #+<guardname>
appended to the lines of the series file.  You only get those lines if
you've done "select <guardname>", so it's useful for creating subseries.

Searching now, it seems normal quilt doesn't support this, and tries to
apply everything, seeing the guards as a comment.  That's bad, since
I've got some crap patches in there.
