You mean in the sense that GNOME applets are not supported by non-GNOME 
window managers whereas the notification icons are? I wonder how hard it 
would be to build a dual DockApp / GNOME applet thingy. I'll have a look 
at how much code is involved at doing either that or a combination with 
a notification icon and an applet.
