I guess you hold the power button to get back to GameOS and upgrade the
firmware? So you can still switch back and forth between GameOS and Linux?

What's the status of the hard drive in the problematic PS3?
It is working?
Is it partitioned for OtherOS, or for GameOS only?

To get more info about the regions on the disk, you can #define DEBUG in
drivers/ps3/ps3stor_lib.c.
