[Cbe-oss-dev] Cannot power-off/shutdown/halt, hangs instead

Hi folks

I'm investigating this issue [0] that occurs with the stock
powerpc64-smp kernels in Ubuntu (2.6.2[45]), but not when built using
ps3_defconfig.

When shutting down it gets right to the point where it says it's about
to power off, then it just hangs.

It appears it's affected by video mode changes (see final comment [1]).
Note the kernels it's reported against are probably configured to use
18MB for the ps3fb, as that's the way it's been set in Ubuntu so far, I
don't know if that makes a difference? (I will be acting on the advice
given in prev thread to change to 9MB as soon as I can).

I've done a little digging on this list, patchwork, and
geoff/ps3-linux.git. However, didn't find anything that really jumped
out as this problem. The search terms (power off/shutdown/halt/hang)
seem to be rather common.

Can anyone provide me any direction here?
