<p class="MsoPlainText">The report encompasses 82 power system modelling tools (about twice the number of models analysed by top review studies available in literature): it considers models developed by 46 organisations as research institutions, consultancy
companies, system operators, universities, international organisations, utility companies and research consortia. The knowledge on these models has been gathered by means of a survey prepared by JRC C7 and circulated to relevant power system experts in Europe.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoPlainText"><o:p> </o:p></p>
<p class="MsoPlainText">The outcome of this report is twofold: from the energy modelling perspective, it is a useful mapping exercise, helping to promote knowledge-sharing and thus increasing efficiency and transparency in the modelling community. On the other
hand – from the knowledge management perspective – we hope it can represent a useful blueprint to be adopted for similar mapping exercises in other thematic areas.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoPlainText"><o:p> </o:p></p>
<p class="MsoPlainText">Finally, this report is aligned with the objectives of the European Commission's Competence Centre on Modelling, launched on 26 October 2017 and hosted by the JRC, which aims to promote a responsible, coherent and transparent use of
modelling to support the evidence base for European Union policies.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoPlainText"><o:p> </o:p></p>
<p class="MsoPlainText">While this report represents a scientific result per se, one of the expected (and welcomed) outcomes of this mapping exercise is to raise awareness of power system modelling activities among European policy makers.<o:p></o:p></p>
