No, I don't think there is any documentation other than the kerneldoc
on the API functions themselves, but that doesn't give much of a
higher level view.

If I get some time, I'll try to jot down some notes.  I need to write
a presentation on the topic anyway, so maybe I can kill 2 birds with
that stone.
