Thanks all,
I was trying to install red-ribbon since it seems targeted for the PS3, but I wasn't able to use wget after booting with petitboot. (I got Geoff's version from his website and then used ctrl-alt f1 to get into the terminal.)
I could ping 127.0.0.1, but any exteral address said "bad address". I was able to go on the internet from gameOS though.

I will keep playing around this weekend with different methods or to try install different flavors of linux, but please let me know how I can access the internet from the petitboot terminal. The red-ribbon site mentioned Bootos-petitboot. Is this different than Geoff's version?

Will update my tinkering results.

Thanks again.

> Subject: Re: [Cbe-oss-dev] Fedora 18
> From: geoff@infradead.org
> To: michael@ellerman.id.au
> CC: sonyfedora@outlook.com; cbe-oss-dev@lists.ozlabs.org
> Date: Wed, 30 Jan 2013 12:51:11 -0800
>
> Hi All,
>
> On Tue, 2013-01-29 at 22:03 +1100, Michael Ellerman wrote:
> > The powerpc Ubuntu port still supports PS3 AFAIK - though I haven't used
> > it myself.
> >
> > https://wiki.ubuntu.com/PowerPC
>
> Just to report, I could successfully install to a retail model with
> the lubuntu 12.10 quantal alternate CD (link below).
>
> I used the 'install-powerpc64' option.
