Best PS3 Firmware for OtherOS?

Hello to all on the list,

I am sure we are all disappointed with Sony's decision to remove the OtherOS support from the PS3 system. Throughout the years I have used the PS3 as a platform to increase my parallel programming knowledge, and I'm not quite ready to give up on it. I will not update, and have a system which is still running a much older version of the PS3 firmware. Yes, this means no PSN, but I do have a second system which is used for games, Blu-rays, etc. Thus, my questions are:

1) Which PS3 firmware provides the best support for the OtherOS feature?
2) Which firmware uses the least amount of memory when in OtherOS mode? (I want to maximize the amount of RAM available for Linux.)
3) Is there a particular version that allows more access to the features of the Cell B.E.?
4) Do any of the firmwares allow access to the RSX? (I don't think so, but want to be sure.)
5) What communities exist for sharing information on successful hacks, and other programming practices that maximize the power of the Cell B.E. in the PS3?

Thank you all for your time,
